Max Blumenthal

RIGEL, a 1985 Ted Hood-designed Bristol 38.8
Bio:

Max Blumenthal, Baltimore resident and attorney. Max enjoys sailing with his wife, Brenda - and although their two grown daughters don't sail, he's "working on the grandchildren." Max also enjoys tennis, astronomy, and playing the piano.

The Boat:

RIGEL, a 1985 Ted Hood-designed Bristol 38.8. Max previously sailed an Independence 31, and when he was ready for a larger boat, his friend and broker led him to the Bristol, which he's still sailing after 13 years. Max built the beautiful Eastport Pram that graces Rigel's transom.

Favorite Cruising Destination:

Max sails Rigel all over the Chesapeake Bay, including some out of the way, "secret" corners, noting that "some of my favorite spots are places the cruising guides tell you to avoid." A few years ago Max sailed Rigel to Bermuda; last summer's cruise destination was Maine. The Marion-Bermuda race is under
consideration.

Reason for Boatyard Stop:

"My wife Brenda and I sailed Rigel to ZMI over the Thanksgiving weekend. Our plan this year includes
annual lay-up and winter storage, gelcoat repairs, and upgrades to sail handling hardware. Over the years at ZMI, Rigel has had most of her systems replaced or upgraded, including rigging, electronics, and a new bottom."

Why Zimmerman Marine?:

"I have been coming to ZMI for ten years now, as I have great confidence in their work. They'll tell me what needs doing, as well as what not to do; and they care for Rigel as if she were their own boat."
